The XV. FLORENCE BIENNALE took place from October 18 to 26, 2025, at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence, Italy, under the patronage of the European Parliament, the Region of Tuscany, and the City of Florence. It engaged participating artists and visitors in a diverse program of artistic and cultural activities.
Light and Darkness
The 15th edition of the Florence Biennale explored the ancient, universal interaction between light and darkness—a theme that has always been at the center of artistic, scientific, philosophical, and literary debates.
“The sublime essence of light and darkness”
highlights the ability of art, architecture, and design to awaken a deep-seated awareness of infinity and the inescapable power of nature. It opens up a dimension in which opposites spontaneously merge, while society often perceives sharp contrasts such as wars that question the meaning of our existence.
The theme encourages reflection on what appears to us as a contradiction but is in fact part of a unified whole: our humanity, our planet, our universe. This single system demands our utmost attention and rests solely on mutual recognition and respect, dialogue, and peace—fundamental principles that have always underpinned the Florence Biennale.
